The Brady Lions Club held its monthly business meeting last Thursday. In response to the tragedies of Sept. 11, the membership voted to make a donation to the American Red Cross. The two main items on the agenda were a special drive for used eyeglasses and a membership drive. Each of the officers and directors presented committee reports, and the treasurer told us how broke we are (He always says that!) Now for the exciting stuff. Lion Tail Twister Wayne Rawlings is heading up a special campaign to collect used eyeglasses, and he’s involving our school kids. Working with BISD Asst. Superintendent Lion Lee Coffman, Lion Wayne has arranged for Mrs. Jan Gardner’s 5th grade GT class at Brady Elementary School to help conduct this drive. During the week of Monday October 8 through Friday October 12, there will be a contest among all of the homerooms in Brady Elementary to see which class can collect and turn in the most used eyeglasses. The winning home room will have a ‘float party.’ (I think that means soda and ice cream, not floating on water.) Parents, please help your kids help the Lions to help people in underdeveloped areas who can’t see well. That way, you, your kids, the Brady Lions, and all of us can say, ‘We Serve!’ Get ready to join the Brady Lions Club! Lions John Roberts, Len Westra and Zac Gray are heading up the three teams who will vie for the title of Most New Members Enrolled during October and November. Those who are on the winning team will be recognized by having a donation to the Richards Memorial Library made in their honor. I don’t know which team I’m on, but look me up in the phone book or come by my office, and I’ll claim you for my group. Until next week, thanks for reading The Mane Lion.
