JV Dogs bucked by Broncos, 28-7

The Brady Bulldog junior varsity squad hosted the Sonora Broncos Thursday night and came up short in an attempt to post its first win of the young season as Sonora won, 28-7. Keeping the game within reach for the entire first half, the Bulldogs trailed 6-0 at the end of the first period. What would prove to be the only touchdown on the night for the Doggies came in the seoncd quarter when Joseph Aguierre broke loose and sprinted 91 yards for a touchdown. Julio Ugalde kicked the PAT and the Bulldogs trailed 12-7 at the half. “When we were executing, we moved the ball,” said Brady coach Larry Hoelscher. “We had a lot of mental lapses throughout the game that kept us from clicking on offense.” The Bulldogs took to the field behind quarterback Cory Airheart who led the Doggies in only his second effort at the helm. “Tommy Langseth and Randy Allin were our leading tacklers on defense,” said the coach. “What we have to work on now is fixing our problems with tackling. Sonora broke four or five tackles each play they were on offense. We have to get the basics down if we want to win games. “Offensively, we are going to add a couple more sets to our run game this week. With the open schedule, we will go ahead and finish the week with full practices.” The JV Dogs will play their next game a week from Thursday when they host Ballinger.
