George Washington Cude, 86, of Brady, died Friday, Sept. 14 in Brady. Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 16 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, Rev. Charles Hallford and Rev. Ed Collins officiating. Burial followed in Rest Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Whitley, Mike Whitley, Terry Virdell, Gregg Gallagher, Clifton Broughton, Will Shaffer and Warren Cude. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Cude, Cecil Cude, Tommy Corntassel, Wilton Bean, Chester Airheart, Butch Airheart and S.P. Tomlinson. Born Oct. 14, 1914 in Calf Creek, formerly Tucker, to Billington Wiley Cude and Amanda Alice (Hickson) Cude, he married Mabel Lela Ellis on Nov. 7, 1937 in Crosbyton. He was a dairyman with Hill Country Creamery for 33 years, operated Cude Dairy with his son George Jr. for seven years and was a cashier at Club Cafe for 12 years. He was a member of the Brady Full Gospel Church. Survivors include his wife, Mabel of the home; a son, George Cude, Jr. and wife, Cherrye, of San Angelo; two daughters, Lela Maxine Whitley and husband, Mellor, of Burnet and Sandra Kay Broughton and husband, Charles, of Houston; eight grandchildren, Keith Whitley, Michael Whitley, Cindy Gallagher, Terri Virdell, Barbara Ann Shaffer, Warren Cude, Amanda Grien and Clifton Broughton; 11 great-grandchildren, Amy Caudle, Joe Gallagher, Kristine Whitley, Amanda Krenek, Wesley and Daniel Virdell, Stephen and Robbie Shaffer, Joseph and John Shaffer and Tanner Cude; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard, Earl and Elbert; and five sisters, Ella, Annie, Marie, Alice and Cynthia Mae.
