Damrosch Music Club begins season with two guest artists

The Damrosch Music Club opened its season Saturday, Sept. 15 at the First Christian Church in Brady with 17 members and one guest attending. Vice president Wadena McAlister called the meeting to order and asked Deryl Bishop to read the NFMC invocation. The group sang “God Bless America” led by Verona Garner and played by Norman Rideout. The hymn of the month, “This is Our Father’s World,” was led by Betty Walton and accompanied by Marjorie Barnhill. Wadena introduced the two guest artists, Betty and Newte Cooper, who provided several selections of folk, patriotic and ragtime music. Betty accompanied Newte as he played a 1763 violin for several selections. He also played the mandolin for the group. Kryste Boydstun sang “Caro mio ben (Thou, All My Bliss)” and “Star Dust.” Norma Rideout accompanied her. The meeting adjourned for a wonderful luncheon served by the social committee which consists of Wadena McAlister, Beverly Striegler, Deryl Bishop, Fay Lawler and Marjorie Barnhill. Members attending were Marjorie Barnhill, Mary Bates, Kryste Boydstun, Deryl Bishop, Cotton Carmichael, Verona Garner, Mindy Gober, Jeanette Harlow, Fay Lawler, Amy Lott, Wadena McAlister, Mae McWilliams, Drusilla Miller, Ouita Moseley, Norma Rideout, Beverly Striegler and Betty Walton, Jerry Bratton was a guest and Mr. and Mrs. Cooper of Brownwood were the guest artists.
