Rotary Spokes

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the Caf’ at the Depot. Leah Vickers, Brady High School senior who is president of the Interact Club, was a guest. Cynthia Quinn was the guest of Caroline Parks. Four US Flags were received as a gift from Melba Harris through Louise and James Long and a Brady Rotarian. President Steve DeFiore reminded members of “ticket-taking” at the bull riding event Saturday night. Rotarian Wayne Massey of Fredericksburg gave an interesting update on the new Hunger Plus Project that is an effort by Rotary Clubs to help stem worldwide hunger. He told of the children all over the world who die each year from starvation. One of the nearest programs is being held in Mission de Candelilla in Coahuilla, Mexico. The $2 bill was won by Lee Coffman for knowing that the Heisman Trophy in football is named after John Heisman who was a coach at Rice Institute in Houston in 1924. Program chairman for Aug. 28 is Jim Ricks. Bill Ricks will be the program chairman for the Sept. 4 meeting.
