Lohn ISD welcomes five to staff for new school year

Just in the nick of time before students head back to the books, Lohn Independent School District has announced its newest flock of teachers. Paul Cotton will lead the athletic department as head football coach. He’s also assigned as the high school and junior high science teacher. He replaces LISD graduate and head coach, Johnny Griffice, who is currently pursuing a career with an offshore drilling company. Cotton, a one-time coach at Rochelle ISD, has been employed with Brookesmith ISD for the past four years. Jamie Smart, a Lometa High School and Sul Ross University grad, has been hired as the new ag teacher at Lohn. He will also assist Cotton with the varsity football program. A 1988 graduate of Lohn High School, Ben Adams will return to LISD as a social studies teacher. A previous military man, he was active in Desert Storm. After ending his career with the military, Adams returned to school and received his degree from Angelo State University. Transferring from Waco Lavega ISD, Angie Pidgeon will serve as the secondary Spanish and English teacher at Lohn. Juakana Nelson will fill her first teaching position at Lohn after recently graduating from Howard Payne University in Brownwood. She is a 1994 graduate of Rochelle High School. Mrs. Nelson will be assisting junior high students with math, science and English. ‘We are very pleased that we were able to get this group of educators signed on with us,’ said LISD Supt. Leon Freeman. ‘Each one of our new teachers have unique talents, and we’re looking forward to them working here with us and our kids in Lohn.’
