Six local tennis players brought back eight trophies plus another by default from the Howard Payne Wilson Jacket Open Tennis Tournament held in Brownwood on Saturday. Allison Johnson of Rochelle teamed with Jasmine LaFuente of Brady to win the second place spot in the 16-year-old girls doubles. Cheryl Kubacak of Brady teamed with Anna Freeman of Lohn to win first place in the women’s doubles. Ricky McBee of Brady teamed with a Brownwood man to win second place in the men’s doubles while Riley McFarland teamed with a Brownwood boy and got a default when the opponents failed to show up for the match. In individual competition, Freeman placed first in women’s singles followed by Kubacak in second. McBee lost the championship match to a player from Abilene Christian College while McFarland placed second in the 14-year-old boy’s singles. These players will be traveling back to Brownwood this weekend for the Back-To-School Open Tournament that will be held at Brownwood High School.
