Approximately 20 Brady people were in Austin July 18-19 and participated as a “confidential preliminary settlement” was reached in the Brian Stearns civil fraud case. Jim George, a former Bradyite and Austin attorney who represented the Brady investors in the mediation talks, said Sunday that a tentative agreement had been reached. “Hopefully whose who invested with Stearns will be pleased with the terms of the settlement,” George said. He added that the terms of the preliminary agreement are confidential at this time. The lengthy session began at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 18 at the Driscoll Hotel in Austin with some 60 attorneys and other interested parties in attendance. The meetings ran from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until about 6 p.m. on Thursday. “The session was a long, drawn out, tedious process,” Karlton Steffens said.
