Joseph Weldon Hampton, 78, died Friday, July 13 in Arlington. Funeral services were held Monday, July 16 in Arlington, Moore Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jerry Mayfield officiating. He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Brady to Will and Ora Hampton. He joined the Navy in December 1941 and served on the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown in Aircraft Maintenance Division until the end of World War II. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and lived in Dallas many years, working for Merchant Motor Lines and retiring in 1988. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Gladys, of Arlington; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kathy Hampton of Euless; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Mike DaVerne, of Richardson; four step-children; four grandsons, Blake and Mark Hampton and Troy and Sean DaVerne; four step-grandchildren; two brothers, J.D. Hampton and wife, Velma, and Richard Hampton; and a sister, Ouita Bratton and husband, David. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill Hampton and Lewis Hampton; and three sisters, Annie Mae Hampton, Nealie Bob Hampton and Frances Shaw.
