July 12th was Brady Lions Club’s first meeting of a new year and a new administration. Our new Lion President Ronnie Gassiot almost got fined for starting his first meeting a few minutes late, but he made up for it by ending the meeting on time. Since this was a business meeting, no program was scheduled, and the 30 minutes following our usual great meal was packed with lots of discussions, decisions and plans for the coming 12 months. Our Lion Boss has assigned committee functions to each of the officers and directors. He has also placed a priority on growth of the club. Our goal of a net increase of 12 Lions this year will be headed by a committee of Lions John Roberts, Zac Gray and Len Westra. The 26 members present last Thursday voted to accept Lion Tail Twister Wayne Rawlings’ motion for our vests to be worn at all meetings and functions, not just at the first monthly meeting. The intent is to instill more Lion pride (no pun intended), more visibility before the public and an additional excuse to fine forgetful Lions who arrive ‘out of uniform.’ Besides our remaining July meetings on the 19th and 26th, all active and not-so-active Brady Lions (there’s about 50, altogether) and their families are strongly encouraged to meet at the local Super S Foods store Sunday afternoon on July 29. We’ll load up all the food, drinks, watermelon, ice and supplies, and caravan to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. Once there, we’ll prepare and serve the evening picnic for the campers and staff during one of the week-long camps for youngsters with diabetes. (Hopefully, we’ll keep Lion ‘Fire Bug’ Max Gordon in tow and not have to summon a bucket brigade.) We’ll remind you again next week in this column, including the time to assemble. As of last Thursday, only 7 members are delinquent on dues. If you’re one of them, please get your check to Lion Secretary Louise Long ASAP. The club has already paid the District and International for you. Keep watching this column for information on our drive for eyeglasses, our face painting and hair spraying booth at the Goat Cookoff, the October District 2-A1 Cabinet Meeting in Brady and lots of other activities.
