Mary Ann Hays, 54, of Brady, died Monday, July 2 in San Angelo. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 5 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, Rev. Aaron Blake, officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery. She was born Nov. 15, 1945, to Jacob DeBose and Nola Walton. She married James Hays in November 1965 in Brownwood. Mrs. Hays was a telephone operator for GTE (Verizon) for 15 years. She was a member of the St. James Baptist Church. Survivors include her mother, Nola Alexander and her husband, Alonzo, of Brady; three daughters, Velma Butler of Irving, Gwendolyn Hays and her fiance, Eric Morgan, of Brady, and Jeanette Hays and her fiance, Frederick Weber, of Hearne; four brothers, Jerry Alexander of Brady, Jacob DeBose, Jr. of Kings-tree, S. C., Jeffery Alexander of Stephenville, and Henry DeBose of Charlotte, N. C.; five sisters, Fayrene Debose and Diane Thompson, both of Brownwood, Brenda Whitehead of Decatur, Ga., Debra DeBose of Brazil and Melinda Menefield of Brady; four grandchildren, Kali Tillmon, McKenzie Tillmon, Channing Booker and Trenton Hays; two special friends, Sandra Hamm and Richard and Mickie Holloway; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, her husband, a brother, Alonzo Alexander and sisters, Carolyn Alexander and Vivian Sillemon. Memorials made be made to the Kidney Foundation.
