Gwen’s Golf Gab

As you all well know the much needed rain passed us by again, but the cooler weather was much welcomed by all the golfers. Hopefully we will get the rains soon. The Thursday Hully Gully on June 26 brought out 44 golfers. There were eight 5-person teams and one 4-person team. Scores were very close and ranged from 26 to 32. The Brent Raybion team won the bragging rights with a posted score of 26. Brent’s team consisted of Brent, Clay Jones, Abel Ledezma, Bobbie Williams and Denise Nichols. Congratulations to each of you! The second place team was Leroy Keese, Vic Cruz, Mike Garcia, Lee Williams and Liz Rudder with a score of 27. Congratulations to you also! Other scores posted were two 28s, two 29s, 30, 31 and 32. Thank you to each of you that came out and competed in the Hully Gully. The next scheduled Hully Gully is Thursday July 5. Just remember to call the Golf Shop at 597-6010 by 4:30 or go by and sign up. There is also an 18-hole Hully Gully scheduled for Sunday, July 8 and you must call the Golf Shop by 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to enter. There is a youth tournament scheduled for area youth on July 10. This tournament is sponsored by Steve Alexander from San Angelo and if your child is planning on playing you need to call Steve at 915-942-0669. Your child must be from 9 to 18 years old to qualify for this tournament. The tournament is part of The West Texas Junior Champions Tour and for more information call Steve or Tonda Alexander at the number above. The ladies’ evening of golf has been rescheduled for Wednesday July 11 and you must call the Golf Shop by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday to play. We are looking forward to more women coming out and joining in the fun. The format is the same as the Hully Gully. This is just a little food for thought with the Club Championship competition approaching. The Club Championship is played in August and you may get sign up sheets in the Golf Shop and pay your $30 entry fee. So decide to come on out and compete with other golfers to see who gets to wear the title of Club Champion. Requirements are that you must be a member of the Heart of Texas Golf Association, you must pay a $30 entry fee, and you must be able to play your opponents by the designated dates. If you are a regular golfer here in Brady, I’m sure you have seen our future junior high and high school golf teams out playing on a daily basis. I ask each of you to have a little word of encouragement and a lot of patience with these young people as they are our future. That about does it for this week. Just come out and join us on the course as often as you can.
