Christopher Waddell graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., on June 2 with a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering. While attending West Point, Chris maintained Academic Dean’s List status all four years and was a four-year letterman on the Army sprint football team. He is pictured with his grandmother, Ruby Lee D’Orio, his aunt, Brenda McBee of Brady, and his uncle, Tom Thornton of West Columbia. These family members and others attended the graduation week activities that included sightseeing of the academy, baccalaureate services at the Cadet Chapel, the graduation parade, a formal graduation banquet and the graduation ceremony. After graduation, the family was treated to a luncheon at the home of Col. and Mrs. Carlton where a special pinning ceremony was held as Cadet Waddell took the oath of office and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. His parents, Ronnie and Pam (Thornton ) Waddell of Brazoria, had the honor of pinning their son’s officer bars onto his uniform. Lt. Waddell has branched field artillery and will be going to Fort Sill, Okla. for officer training and then will be stationed at Fort Hood. He is also the grandson of the late Raymond Thornton of Brady.
