The Brady Lions Club’s meeting June 21 was well attended and had a good program. Twenty-one Lions were present and Lion Zack Gray brought our speaker, Deb Buehler. Deb is Director of Development for the Texas Lions Camp at Kerrville. Ms. Buehler brought us up-to-date on the activities at the camp, and gave us a brief overview of the newly added facilities. Over the summer camping season, Texas Lions Camp will have served about 1700 campers at no cost to them or their families (WE SERVE!) All but two of the weekly sessions are devoted to children who have physical and/or mental challenges. Some are in wheelchairs, some are blind and some have multiple disabilities. If it were not for camps such as these that are sponsored by Lions Clubs, most of these youngsters would not have an opportunity for a camping experience. The last two weekly sessions of camp are reserved for children with diabetes. A great many of those campers will also have additional mental and physical challenges. The members of the Brady Lions Club and their families will be going to the camp to provide and serve an evening cookout during one of the diabetes sessions on Sunday, July 29. This Thursday, District Governor Al Owen will attend our meeting to install our club’s officers for the July 2001 through June 2002 year. We’ll list all of them for you next week. There will be no Brady Lions Club meeting on Thursday, July 5. That means that members had better wear their vests on July 12, because it will be the ‘first meeting of the month.’ The new Board of Directors will meet on Monday, July 9. You’ll all get a phone call.
