Jose (Joe) Niaves, Sr., 74, of Muscatine, Iowa, and formerly of Lohn, died Sunday, June 17 in Muscatine. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady, Father Colm Mulligan, conducting. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home. Born Dec. 23, 1926, in Lohn to Eduardo and Santos Suarez Niaves, he married Niconora Ledezma on Sept. 12, 1945, in Brady. The couple moved to Iowa in 1964. A Catholic, he retired from the Band Ag Corp. in Muscatine after 19 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Nicanora; three sons, Joe Niaves, Jr. of Muscatine, David Niaves and his wife, Ema, of Muscatine, and Henry Niaves and his wife, Linda, of Brady; a daughter, Maria Suzanne Niaves of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Rosa Niaves of Blythe, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters, and a grandchild.
