There’s a lot going on in the Brady Lions Club these days. Our program speaker last Thursday was our Past District Governor Joan Caldwell of San Angelo. Lion Joan is now our district’s coordinator for the Texas Lions Foundation. That organization was started in 1984 to provide disaster relief grants to local Lions Clubs so they could better help their own communities in times of greatest need. Recently, the Foundation has begun making pro-active grants to assist with other types of charitable projects. It presently has a $1 million corpus, while distributing only from its investment earnings. One of last week’s guests was Lion Bill Caldwell, husband of PDG Joan. Lion Chief John Stewart brought the Brady Police Department’s newly promoted Terminal Agency Coordinator (Communications Supervisor) Ronni Russell. We’re growing! Lion V.P. Randy Richards (who presided in our fearless leader’s absence) inducted Don Finkenkeller as our newest member. Lion Don is the Store Manager at Wal-Mart in Brady. His membership is sponsored by Lion Wayne Rawlings (Lion Don’s employee!!!) Even though our new Lion is originally from northern California, he was smart enough to marry a lady from Lometa. We’re glad he also had enough sense to settle here in the Heart of Texas. Some local Lions will be attending our District 2-A1 1st Cabinet Meeting in Midland on July 21 and 22. The 2nd District Cabinet Meeting will be held right here in Brady on October 19 & 20. The District stretches from Midland to Marble Falls. The patriotic banners should be up on local businesses by this coming Saturday. They will stay up until after July 4th, then they will go up again for the Labor Day holiday. If your business has not been contacted, and you would like to join this program, please call 597-0561. We’ll get you on the list and tell you where to send your $25.00.
