Local couple’s grandson graduates from Texas Tech

On Saturday, May 12, Leslie Paul Bruce graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. Of the 28 graduating civil engineers, Bruce finished academically as the top ranked student. He was selected as the most outstanding senior civil engineer by peers in the civil engineering department. In addition, he was in the top 20 percent of all engineers graduating this spring from the Texas Tech Engineering College. While attending Texas Tech University he became a member of Tau Beta Pi, honor society for the top one-eighth of all engineering students. He was also a member of Chi Epsilon, which honors the top one-third of civil engineers. This past year he served as Chi Epsilon’s chapter president. He plans to begin working toward his licensing as a professional engineer. He will remain in Lubbock and begin employment with Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. Bruce was a 1997 graduate of Childress High School. He is the son of Gene and Cheryl Bruce of Childress. His grandparents are Ted and Betty Bruce of Childress, Ken and Ann Bright of Amarillo and Lindsey and Louise Passmore of Rochelle.
