The Brady Lions Club held its monthly business meeting June 7. The only guest present was Lion Rick’s son, Cody Melcer. Lion Treasurer Donald Barley reported that the club would end the fiscal year June 30 very slightly ‘in the black.’ Lion Secretary Louise Long reminded all members that annual dues need to be paid by July 1. The $75 amount includes the ‘100% contributions’ to various Lions Club charities. Those who cannot pay for the full year may pay $37.50 for a half-year and pay the remainder by January 1. Meals are still $6.50 per meeting, and may be paid for 3 months in advance, if the member so chooses. On June 28, Lion District Governor Al Owen will attend our meeting to install our 2001-2002 slate of officers. The Brady club will not meet on July 5, as many members will be away for the Independence Day holiday. The Brady Lions Club banner project is ready to dress up the town for another year of July Jubilee. The patriotic banners will be up on local businesses between June 20 and June 23. If you have a business location and haven’t been contacted, call 597-0561. We’ll gladly accept your $25 contribution and place a banner on your building for this holiday and Labor Day. Looking forward, Brady Lions and their families will caravan to the Lions Children’s Camp at Kerrville on Sunday, July 29 to prepare the evening meal for the campers. That week is devoted to diabetic campers. The club’s ‘fire marshal’ will be Lion Max Gordon. On October 19 and 20, we will host the year’s Second District Cabinet meeting for Lions District 2-A1. Lion Larry Smith is arranging for a golf tournament on that Friday. The meetings will take place at the local VFW Home. OK. Now for the news of who got fined for not having a program on May 31. The guilty Lion asked me not to print his name, so I won’t. But, I do know a certain local chiropractor who came prepared to pay his fine in pennies. Way to go, Lion What’s-his-name! That’s the first time I’ve seen Lion Tail Twister Mike Barbour speechless!
