Good food and generous friends were the perfect combination for a successful Heart of Texas Rehab Day held on June 3 at the Brady Schools Cafeteria. West Texas Rehabilitation Center benefitted from the event, according to Dee Lackey of San Angelo. The 9th annual event, which included a barbecued chicken dinner and bake sale raised approximately $6,000. Sponsors were Brady National Bank, Commercial National Bank, Ed Davenport Trucking and Jones North Ranch. Johnny Jones and Lynn Farris served as volunteer co-chairmen for the benefit which has raised more than $80,000 for the Rehab Center since 1993. Additonal Heart of Texas businesses and individuals making contributions to the fundraiser were Lone Star BBQ, West Central Wireless, Wal-Mart-Brady, Brady Butane, Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, James Long Real Estate, Water Haven, Caf’ at the Depot and Curves for Women. Also, included were Robert and Marjorie Barnhill, V.C. and JoAnn Whitworth, Billie and Claudia Roddie, New Life Ministries, Texaco Travel Center, Ethel Blackwell, KNEL and the Brady Standard-Herald. More volunteers assisting with the event were Sara Howard, Verona Garner, Vicki Moore, Sue Owens, Cynthia and Robert Reeves, Rick and Suzy Tripp, Mike Trollinger, James Williams, Robbie Evans, Jr., Jim Ross and Billie Roddie. “We’re very plesed with the results of the 9th annual Rehab Day,” Jones said. “Also, I’m proud that we were able to help our local Helping Hands organization by giving them some cooked meat and bread following the dinner.” West Texas Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit organization with facilities in Abilene, San Angelo and Ozona providing outpatient rehabilitation treatments to children and adults with disabilities regardless of their financial circumstances. Events such as the Heart of Texas Rehab Day help the Center maintain high quality facilities, equipment and programs to meet the needs of its patients.
