Jones downs Melcer in runoff balloting

The Brady City Council will see a new face at the table following the swearing in of Barbi Jones at Wednesday’s regular meeting. Jones defeated opponent Rick Melcer in Saturday’s runoff election for Place 4 of the Brady City Council with a convincing 262 to 157 victory. With 419 votes cast in the election, Jones won the runoff by having the majority of votes. A total of 222 early votes were cast including 145 for Jones and 77 for Melcer. Election day totals were 117 for Jones and 80 for Melcer. “I am overwhelmed with the support shown to me by people in the community,” Jones told the Standard-Herald on Monday. “I hope that this will be a new beginning and that we can move forward and be positive and progressive. I also hope that this will encourage more people to become involved in their city government.”
