Eileen and Jerry Adams had their teacher retirement party Tuesday afternoon at the Brady Elementary School cafeteria, culminating a total of 69 years of educating young students in two states. The retirement event was hosted by the Brady Elementary teachers and Brady ISD from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Adams, a native of Southern California, checks out with 38 years in the classroom, 15 of them in California. The last 23 have been in Brady. Adams taught eight years in California, three at Rochelle and 20 in Brady. He is a native of Cincinatti, Ohio. The Adamses moved to Brady in 1978 to escape from the hustle and bustle of California and because Mrs. Adams’ sister, Mary Ann Smith, had moved here in 1967. Eileen has taught in elementary school her entire career. Most recently she has been a kindergarten teacher at Brady’s North Ward school. Jerry originally taught in elementary school, but the past 20 years in Brady he has been the English Second Language teacher in Brady ISD. The two plan to travel and “take care of the yard.” They are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Brady. They have two children, both graduates of Brady High School. Dr. Judith Adams is an English professor at Angelo State University, and the Rev. Jason Adams is an associate pastor at the University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. About 100 teachers and friends attended the reception.
