Lindsey Nelson, 15-year-old daughter of Teri Nelson of Brady, picked up a silver and bronze medal at the UIL State Track Meet in Austin last Saturday. The high school sophomore lives in Taft with her father, George Nelson, former Brady High football coach. Lindsey placed second in the discus throw in the Class 3A division with a toss of 143-5. She trailed Johvonne Hernandez of Port Isabel, who had a winning throw of 155-5. The winning distance in the Class 5A division was 143-0 by Allie Booker of Cypress-Fairbanks. Lindsey’s nemesis, Hernandez, also got the gold in the shot put with a throw of 44-6 1/2. Lindsey placed third with an effort of 41-9 1/4. Shaumica Holman of Huntington was second with 42-7 1/2.
