Alta Marie Gilbreath Johnson, 74, of Menard, died Wednesday, May 9 in Menard. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the First Baptist Church in Menard, the Rev. Raymond Jones, conducting. Burial was in Cox Cemetery in McCulloch County under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home. Born Jan. 7, 1927, in Brown County, she was the daughter of Andy and Lovie Miller Gilbreath. She married Jack Johnson on Nov. 27, 1944, in Brady. A member of the Baptist church, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Terry Johnson and his wife, Belinda, of Angleton, David Johnson and his wife, Dorothy, of Menard, Tony Johnson and his wife, Cathy, of San Angelo, and Donnie Johnson and his wife, Terri, of San Angelo; two daughters, Joyce Freeman and her husband, Sammy, of White-wright, and Margaret Beyer of Menard; three sisters, Velma Adams and Viola Mothershead, both of Winchell, and Sharlene Gilbreath of Brownwood; a sister-in-law, Olita Pillows of Brownwood; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jack Gilbreath, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Johnson, a granddaughter, Julie Ann Johnson, and a great-grandson, Jarred Freeman.
