Alyssa Carter places at Bible quiz competition

The Gainesville Bible Quiz team traveled to Kilgore on Feb. 16-17 to compete in a district tournament. The 2001 team consisting of Nathan Blakey, Ceria Boaz, Alyssa Carter and Kearisha Davidson came back with a third place victory in the experienced division competition. Alyssa Carter was awarded an individual trophy for highest scorer of the tournament with a score of 123 points. Nathan Blakey was given honorable mention for a score of 48 points. The book of study for this year is Acts with the material covering 545 verses from this book. Each quizzer commits all these verses to memory and reviews and references them daily. The material covered at this competition included the first nine chapters of Acts. Other competing teams at the tournament were from Austin, Bridge City, Conroe, Dallas, Georgetown, Hardin, Hillsboro, Houston, Lufkin, Montgomery, Orange, Pearland, Pt. Neches, Warren and Woodville. Alyssa is the granddaughter of Allie Rickman of Brady and Richard Rickman of Mathis. She is the daughter of Gary Carter and the late Lydia Carter of Gainesville.
