Hully Gullys and duffers keep the course busy; Memorial tourney next

As is normal for this time of year it is so busy out at the course that we hardly have time to think what we need to do next. What with Hully-Gullys, the ladies’ evening of golf, Jr. High golf, receiving Memorial Day Tournament entries, annual dues and all the normal daily activities we are very busy. The last Thursday Hully-Gully was the biggest in attendance that I have seen in two summers. There were 54 golfers out trying to earn points as well as trying to win for their team. There were 10 five-person teams and one four-person team that played. The winning team consisted of Tim Kilgore, Jack Roberts, Doug Roberts, and Bobbie Williams with a score of 28. Second place team consisted of Mark Jones, Kyle Brashear, Jim Dubose, Peanut Owens, and Mae Journeay with a score of 29 and a score card playoff. Third place team was Ray Hawkins, Charlie Bush, Gabe Sanchez, John Dani, and Cheryl Epley with a score of 29. Good job everyone’very good scores! New members to the Heart of Texas Golf Association were Cheryl Epley, Jesse Bowden, Raymond Ledezma, Mario Mata, Ted Morton and Bobby Williams. Welcome to the Association and we hope to see all of you out for all the upcoming Hully-Gullys. The next Hully-Gully will be Thursday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. Just be sure to call the Golf Shop by 4:30 on Thursday to sign up at 597-6010. The Chamber of Commerce Duffers Tournament was a real success on Saturday. There were 14 teams with five persons on each team. Tee time was 8 a.m. and we finished playing at 2 p.m. The Chamber served a hamburger lunch with all the trimmings, gave away door prizes that had been donated by local businesses and gave away prizes to the winning teams. The winning team with the regular score was Brent Raybion, Richard Roper, Todd Woodall, Ernie Garcia, and Drake with a score of 55. Congratulations goes out to that team with a great score. The winning team with the Duffer’s score was David Graves, Jamye Graves, David Brown, Ronnie McMillan, and Russell Slone with a Duffer’s score of 48 and regular score of 57. Our team which consisted of Charlie Bush, Gwen Bush, J T Epley, Cheryl Epley, and Tim Kilgore shot a 57 regular score and had a 57 Duffer’s score. David Graves team parred all the right holes which lowered their score to win the Duffer’s. The shot of the day had to be a hole-in-one by David Graves on hole # 3 winning him a Titanium Driver donated by Brady National bank and Commercial National Bank. Congratulations David! The Junior High Golfers have embarked on the golf course and as of press time there were 23 that were out to play. Welcome to our new young golfers!!!
