Jim Crawford, 52, of Brownwood died Saturday, April 21 at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, April 23 at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Artie Woodcox officiating. Burial followed in Voca Cemetery in Voca. Born Dec. 14, 1948, in Brady to Vernon and Delma Word Crawford, he worked as a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad. He married Melinda Smith in Richland Springs on June 5, 1981. He was a Brady High School graduate and attended Midtown Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietman Campaign Medal. He had been a resident of Brownwood since 1975 moving there from Brady. Survivors include his wife, Melinda Crawford, of Brownwood; children, Corey, Trey and Nicole Crawford of Brownwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Crawford and Ricky and Maxine Crawford, all of Brady; his mother, Delma Crawford of Brady; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Crawford, and his grandparents, J.L. and Oma Word.
