The Rochelle Hornet tennis teams finished the season strong with big wins at the District 15 A tournament held last week in Brownwood. Three tennis members qualified for the District 15 A regional tournament at the Brownwood meet. In the girls’ singles, Gina Baker won over Holik of Veribest, 6-0, 6-3. The win qualifies her for regional competition in Abilene on April 25 and 26. Boys’ doubles was won by Jerry Estes and Ricky Teague over Dawson and Slate of Panther Creek, 6-1, 6-4, to qualify for the Abilene regional meet. Also in boys’ doubles, Jamie Williams and Eddie Teague finished fourth at Brownwood. Rochelle boys finished in a tie with Panther Creek for the district championship. In the JV girls division, Rochelle won district; Shaylene Gossett defeated Samantha Bryson to win first, 8-2, in the girls’ singles; and the JV girls’ doubles team of Tanda Cook and Jackie Williams won first defeating the Santa Anna team of Guthrie and Boyet, 9-7. “They all did a good job in a very difficult season,” said Rochelle tennis coach Joe Johanson.
