Bulldog rally falls short, Dogs lose to Burnet, 5-4

A Brady Bulldog rally fell a run short as the Burnet Bulldogs pulled off a narrow, 5-4, victory over the Dogs here Friday night in a District 26-3A baseball game. “I was really pleased with the kids,” Brady coach Nathan Headrick said. “They just kept fighting back, and they almost accomplished their goal.” The loss dropped the Doggies to a 1-7 record overall. They are 0-2 in district play. Luke Price pitched a sterling game, allowing five runs, but only three of them were earned. He went the complete seven innings, giving up eight hits while striking out eight and no bases on balls. “I felt that the ‘big deal’ in Luke’s outing was the fact that he did not walk a single batter,” Headrick said. Burnet started a lefthanded pitcher who was very adept at picking off runners. He nailed the first two Brady base runners, the coach said. The visitors picked up a single run in the first and another in the fourth and added three in the fifth. Brady collected all its four runs in the final seventh inning, when they got two of their four hits while the Burnet pitcher was walking three. Clifton Tally knocked in two big runs in the final frame. Zane Branden-berger and Price had one each. Brady still is hampered with fielding miscues as the Dogs committed six errors. “I think that the kids learned a big lesson in this game. They kept battling. We talked about this last week and they seemed to respond to adversity this time,” Headrick said. “The wins will come.” The Brady team will be on the road Tuesday (tonight) at Liberty Hill.
