Early registration opportunities for kindergarten and Pre-K students will be available at the North Ward Elementary School campus during the week of March 26-30. The hours for registration are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and no appointment is necessary. A birth certificate, social security card and current immunization record are the required documents needed at the time of registration. The number of classes that are offered is dependent on how many students are expected. This is one reason that early registration is so critical for the children at North Ward Elementary School. “One of the planning challenges at North Ward is attempting to plan for the needs of a campus when we are unsure of the number of children that we will be serving,” said North Ward Elementary School Principal Jenny Roberts. “We feel that in Pre-K and kindergarten, a small class size is very important in best meeting the needs of four and five-year-old students.” If a child is currently enrolled in the Pre-K program at North Ward Elementary and is planning on attending kindergarten next year, parents need only to update their child’s records. This can also be done during pre-registration week as well. To be eligible for kindergarten during the 2001-2002 school year, a child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1. Eligibility for North Ward’s Pre-K program is based upon income and/or language guidelines. To participate in the Pre-K classes, a child must be four years of age on or before Sept. 1. Anyone with a child eligible for Pre-K or kindergarten classes at North Ward Elementary during the upcoming school year are encouraged to register early during the week of March 26-30.
