Spring Break week took its toll on Brady Lions Club attendance last Thursday. Only 16 Lions and 3 guests attended, but they heard a very informative program. Lion Tail Twister Mike Barbour brought his much better half Phyllis, who is the director of The Haven. The organization’s formal name is McCulloch County Family Shelter, Inc. With the shelter having been open only since March 10, it has not yet had any residents. However, the volunteers and the facility stand ready to help at a moment’s notice. Phyllis explained the programs that will be provided by The Haven, and she outlined the procedures through which abused women and children can stay at the facility, out of harm’s way. The shelter needs more volunteers and, of course, donations. They need local help to ‘match’ the available grant monies. Donations and inquiries for The Haven are accepted at PO Box 310, Brady, TX 76825-0310. This is the last Mane Lion before the Lions Honor Banquet on Monday, March 26. Tickets must be purchased in advance from any of the three high schools in our county, or from Brady Standard-Herald, KNEL Radio, Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Pollard’s office, Rick Melcer’s office or Cafe-at-the-Depot. Admission is $10 per person for family and friends. There will also be a raffle at the banquet. We will give away two Brady shopping sprees worth approximately $250 to $300 each. Come support the students and support the Brady Lions Club’s ‘We Serve’ programs.
