Mattie Joyce, 98, of Brady, died Tuesday, March 13 in Brady. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17 in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Wallace Pierce, officiating. Burial was in Pear Valley Cemetery. She was born July 27, 1902, in the Nine community, to George Washington and Mollie Russell. She married Berry (Pete) Joyce on June 23, 1921, in Lohn. She was a lifetime resident of the area. Mrs. Joyce was a homemaker and a member of the Central Baptist Church of Brady where she was a Sunday School teacher. Survivors include a daughter, Grace Hardman and her husband, Harold, of Richland Springs; two sons, Darrell Joyce of Richland Springs, and Howard Joyce and his wife, Ina, of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Susie Huffman of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving were special nieces, Wanda Nesbit and Faye Eggleston, both of Brady; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a son, Milton R. Joyce.
