A group of high school students who are quickly making a name for themselves in the entertainment industry will be the featured guests and entertainment at this year’s annual Lions’ Honor Banquet scheduled for Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Heart of Texas Civic Center. In only their fifth year in existence and under the direction of Mark Best, the Cooper Fiddlers from Abilene Cooper High School have just recently recorded a new CD and music video. They are booked for engagements from Corpus Christi to Amarillo. In February of 1998, they performed with Sony Classical recording artist and famous fiddler Mark O’Connor in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educator’s Association Convention. They were also invited to Russia for the International Junior Olympics and they have also traveled to Branson, MO. to open the show for the Country Tonight Theatre. The Fiddlers were also selected to perform at the National School Boards Association 1999 annual conference in San Francisco, Calif. where they performed for over 8,000 people. Last February, they performed for the Texas State Computer Educators Association in Austin and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association in San Antonio. Tickets for this year’s honor banquet are now available at each of the schools in the county that are participating in the event.
