Irma Holland McCreary, 82, of Lufkin and formerly of Rockwood, died Feb. 21 in Lufkin. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Lufkin, the Rev. Hugh Bell, officiating. Burial was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 in Rockwood Cemetery under the direction of Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home of Lufkin. Born April 25, 1918, in Rockwood to Byron and Mabel Hodges Holland, she married Frank McCreary in Rockwood in 1937. During World War II, the couple were all over the world while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1963, and the family moved to Palestine. Mrs. McCreary was active in the St. Phillips Episcopal Church, the Palestine Dogwood Garden Club, and she volunteered at the Trinity Valley Medical Center. She moved to Lufkin in 1996 where she again was active in the community. Survivors include a son, Frank McCreary and his wife, Jacki, of Houston; a brother, Houston Holland and wife, Jean, of Grand Prairie; a sister, Mabelyne McKnight of Lufkin; and two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister.
