Blackwood Brothers to present gospel concert at Llano theater

Legendary gospel group, Ron Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers Quartet will be appearing at Llano’s Lantex Theater on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Admission is $8 per person for the fast moving two hour gospel concert. Tickets are on sale at the Llano Chamber of Commerce, Kingland Chamber of Commerce, Pleasingly Plus, Llano National Bank, Schooley Saddelry in Mason and KNEL radio in Brady. The Blackwood name is a legend in Southern Gospel with more than 60 years of music that has touched millions of people around the world. This family possesses a name that has won eight Grammy Awards, seven Dove Awards and five All American Awards. They have sold 40 million records and appeared on the Bill Gaither Videos, Statler Brothers Show and TNN’s Crook and Chase. Ron Blackwood’s father, R.W. Blackwood was one of the founding members of the Blackwood Brothers, along with Ron’s uncles James and Doyle. In the 1960s, Ron began touring with his father and uncles and worked throughout the world for the next two decades. In 1989, Ron and the Blackwoods relocated to Branson, Mo, and enjoyed much success teaming up with such performers as Christy Lane, Anita Bryant and Mel Tillis with consistently sold out morning shows. In the 1990s the group moved to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and worked with Gospel Hall of Famer, J.D. Sumner, in the Great Smokey Mountains. Ron Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers are now headquartered at the Governor’s Palace Theater in Pigeon Forge. The Blackwoods perform daily at the Louise Mandrell Theater. The award winning Blackwoods feature Ron Blackwood as baritone and MC, Shelley Layne Blackwood as featured vocalist, Craig Hodges as comedian/vocalist/music director, Paul Acree soaring as tenor and Jeff Chapman presenting his bass vocals. “I continually had fans of the Llano County Opry urge me to bring a gospel show to the Lantex Theater,” KNEL disc jockey Tracy Pitcox said. “I began searching for a group that presented great gospel music, some comedy and were very entertaining. After seeing several groups, Ron Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers impressed me more than any other. I really think that everyone will enjoy the show.”
