Playing inspired basketball, the Brady Bulldogs picked up their second victory in district play here last Friday, defeating Llano, 67-51. The point total was the largest the team has scored this season. They had 66 against Abilene Wylie in December. The win keeps the Bulldogs out of the District 26-3A cellar, putting the Yellowjackets in that dismal position. The Dogs are 2-7 in district and 4-23 overall. Brady enters the final game of the season here Tuesday (tonight) against Burnet, a team that is tied with Wimberley for the top spot. Both have 8-1 records. “We played well against Llano,” Brady coach Shawn Dalbert said. “We shot a whole lot better than we had been shooting.” The Dogs were up by two (16-14) after the first quarter and extended that to a 39-30 lead at intermission. Brady continued to control play the rest of the game. “I looked up with two minutes left in the third quarter, and we were ahead by 22 points,” the coach said. “We shut them down with a man-on-man defense. They are a bigger team, but we also controlled the boards,” Dalbert said. Brady’s big man, Hunter Wilkin-son, went out with an ankle injury midway in the second quarter, but the other Dogs picked up the slack. The coach said that C.J. Villegas, Cole Whisenhunt and Adrian Ni’o did fine jobs in the win. Shawn Borchert led the scoring for Brady with 18 points. “We close the season against a fine, classy team in Burnet,” the Brady coach said.
