Joe Bailey Simpson, Sr., 71, of Field Creek died Sunday, Feb. 4 in North Austin Medical Center in Austin. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Don Henderson officiating. Masonic Rite graveside services followed in the City of Llano Cemetery. Born Nov. 7, 1929, in Llano, he married Dorothy Taylor on Dec. 26, 1954, in Brady. He was a retired school administrator and teacher and had lived most of his life in Llano County. During the mid-1950s, he was a junior high teacher and coach in Brady. He was a member of the Lutie Watkins Methodist Church of Llano, the Llano Masonic Lodge #242, the Lions Club, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Valley of Orient of Scottish Rite, the Shriners of Austin and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. He was a veteran in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Simpson, of Field Creek; a daughter, Sherri Seidl and husband, Jerry, of Buda; a son, Joe B. Simpson, Jr. and wife, Gaylene, of Llano; and two grandchildren, Jerold Seidl, Jr. and Jordan Seidl, both of Buda. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Von Simpson.
