Brady Lions Club’s weekly meeting last Thursday was a real treat. In addition to Lion John Stewart’s wife Carol attending as a guest, there were 24 members present. To top that off, restauranteur Lion Barbara Bolton served one of her ‘Friday night’ entrees and it was great! Speaking of serving food ‘ Lion Tail Twister Mike Barbour presented ‘We Serve Gravy’ certificates to Lions C.D. Hilliard, Ronnie Gassiot, Randy Richards and yours truly for the talents we displayed the previous week. With Lion Barbara out of town, the substitute crew handed out the food. Unfortunately, the cream gravy that was intended for the chicken-fried-chicken wound up on the salad, and the salad dressing remained in its containers The day’s program was presented by Deputy Kenneth Poe, who enlightened the group on the activities of the Offender Services Program of community service that he is now heading up. In addition to cleaning up county road rights-of-way and providing lots of other free labor for the city and county governments, the inmates and probationers have painted 234 fire hydrants in Brady. That doesn’t include the ‘doggie’ hydrant at Brady Veterinary Hospital which, after being painted silver, had to be repainted back to its original red color. From now until February 15th is Brady Lions Club’s ‘Blast for Glasses.’ We’re rounding up as many eyeglasses as possible for cataloging and distribution to the needy. Bring your old glasses to the Lions’ boxes at stores and offices in Brady. We’ll tell more about this next week.
