girls varsity It went right down to the wire, but in the end, the Burnet Lady Bulldogs had defeated the Brady Lady Dogs, 37-35. Played at Burnet last Friday night, the Brady team suffered one of its toughest losses since coach Ted Epley came on the scene two years ago. “We played hard, the shots just couldn’t fall,” the Brady coach said. The Lady Dogs shot only 22 percent from the field. “It’s difficult to beat anybody shooting that poorly,” Epley said. “However, as bad as we shot, we still had three great shots at the basket in the final minutes of the game to win, one of them at the buzzer.” The coach said the bitter loss puts his team in a bind as far as making the playoffs are concerned. “We have to win our last three games (two of them at home), but we also have to have help from either Burnet or Ingram,” he said. Epley firmly believes that his squad will hold up its end of the bargain. “We have a tough Liberty Hill bunch in here Tuesday (tonight). They beat us by 21 a couple of weeks ago, but I believe we’ll give them ‘what for’ on our court,” he said. In the Burnet game, Brady jumped off to a 15-9 first period lead, but Burnet came back to outscore the Lady Dogs in the second quarter, 15-5, to take a 24-20 lead at halftime. Burnet took a 31-26 into the fourth period. Brady’s comeback attempt failed three points shy of victory.
