Vanell Turner Johnson, 66, of Brady died Monday, Jan. 22 in San Angelo. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, Brother Rusty Kwast and Brother Bob Kruse officiating. Burial followed in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Born Jan. 5, 1935, in Concho County to Thomas Odice Turner and Dickie Dagma (Favor) Turner, she married Freddy Johnson on July 21, 1955, in Brady. She was a lifelong resident of the area where she was a homemaker and a member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Melvin High School, attended two years of business college and was a former 4-H leader. She helped establish and operate Brady Floors in 1968 with her husband and was a former bookkeeper for West Texas Utilities. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Survivors include her spouse, Freddy Johnson, of Brady; two daughters, Denise Yates and husband, Duaine, of Angleton and Lisa Dolores Dodd and husband, Don, of Brady; a brother, Dwain (Dink) Turner and wife, Barbara, of Uvalde; two sisters, Patty Hart and husband, Eddie, of Tuscola and Dickie Sue Bowman Greer of Maize, Kan.; five grandchildren, Dusty Dodd, Angela Dodd, Darla Yates, Derek Yates and Danica Yates; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
