“We learned how to put people away,” Brady Bulldog basketball coach Shawn Dalbert said Tuesday night after his team had won their first district game of the year over Ingram Tom Moore, 54-52. “It was great to get a ‘W’. It took a team effort and everyone contributed. We got physical with them, but it was our speed that was the difference,” the coach said. A close game all the way, the Bulldogs trailed by one, 11-10, after the first period and were down 27-23 at intermission. In the third quarter, however, the Brady squad took over and the frame ended with the Dogs on top by one, 43-42. Down the stretch the Bulldogs held off their opponents for only their third victory of the season. “We missed a lot of open layups, but our quickness really was a factor against their size. Hunter Wilkinson, who scored only eight points, was big under the defensive boards. He just took over. It was an emotional night for him. It was his gym,” Dalbert said. “Hopefully, this game will put us over the hump. We’ve been fighting to reach this stage all season. We’re physically smaller than most teams, but we have good speed and quickness. We just wanted to win this game more than they did,” he added. Shawn Borchert and Cole Whisen-hunt paced the Brady scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. “I am really pleased with our boys,” the Brady coach said. He said that Burnet is 2-0 in district now, but Brady, Liberty Hill, Wimberley and Ingram are all at 1-1. Llano is 0-2. The Doggies will be in Wimberley Friday night and at Llano next Tuesday.
