Hope House celebrates successful 2000 fund-raiser

The Heart of Texas Hope House, Inc., held their annual fund-raiser for the year 2000 in November and December. The Hope House is a 501C3 non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting charitable undertakings, particularly services to alcoholics and other drug addictions without regard to race or creed. It provided an umbrella for all 12 step activities to ensure they have adequate facilities to carry out their healing programs. This year’s activity involved selling tickets for a raffle held on Dec. 6, 2000, to give away dining certificates provided by local eating establishments in Brady. A free deer processing was given by the Brady Co-op Food Locker Plant, and a free spring turkey hunt was provided by Big Game Taxidermy in Fredonia. The following dining facilities provided more than $400 in free give-a-ways: Burrito Express, Caf’ at the Depot, Catfish Cove, Charlie’s Bar-B-Que, Dairy Queen, El Flamingo Restaurant, Flores Caf’, Heart of Texas Burritos, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lone Star Barbecue, Mac’s Barbecue, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Sonic, Spudz N Burgers, The Steak House, Texas Corral and Tex-Mex Restaurant. The donated items were placed in four separate gift packages for the raffle. First prize went to Liliana Williams of Brady. She won $200 in food certificates and a free deer processing. Second prize went to A.J. Allsup of Rochelle who won $150 in food certificates; third prize of $75 in food certificates went to Robert Hammock of Loneview and fourth place prize of a supervised spring turkey hunt (valued at over $200) went to May Reynolds of Brady. Wal-Mart, Super S Foods and McShan Foods generously permitted ticket sales at their locations. “The fund drive raised over $1,000 for Hope House activities for which the board of directors is extremely grateful,” said a Hope House representative. “The support of the businesses and community makes it possible for Hope House to continue with service not otherwise available to those with special needs.”
