BHS duo to all-state band

Two members of the Famed Brady Bulldog Band will represent McCulloch County next month at the state band workshop and concert in San Antonio. Russell Dean and Bryson Owen, both sophomores at Brady High School, were named to the state band this weekend following Area tryouts held at Robinson High School in Waco. Freshman John Williamson also qualified for the Area tryouts but failed to make a state band nomination. Dean, a tuba player for the FBBB, is one of 20 tuba players from across the state to be named to one of two state bands. This is his second year to be named to the all-state band. Owen, a trombone player with the FBBB, is one of 24 instrumentalists that will comprise two bands each of which will have 12-member trombone sections. “We both will go to San Antonio on Feb. 9 to try out for band and chair placement,” said Dean. “There are two bands, concert and symphonic, and the tryouts in San Antonio will determine where we are placed.”
