County 4-H Food Show cooks up top winners

The McCulloch County 4-H has released the results of both the County and District 4-H Food Shows held recently in Brady and Abilene. The McCulloch County 4-H Food Show was held in Brady on Oct. 29. The following is a list of each winner and their respective categories: MAIN DISH Senior Division’Leslie Ranne, first; John David Willmann, second; and Amanda Pellizzari, third. Intermediate Division’Jay Behrens, first. Junior Division’Becca Will mann, first; Christina DeFiore, second; and Destiny Galindo, third. Beginner Division’Cassidy Weinecke. FRUITS & VEGETABLES Senior Division’Jenna Behrens, first. Intermediate Division’Wendee Carlson, first. Junior Division’Lacey Sawyer. NUTRITIOUS SNACKS & DESSERTS Senior Division’Erica Paniagua, first. Intermediate Division’Katie Kidd, first. Junior Division’Josh Behrens, first; Chandra Dean, second; and Zack Jones, third. Beginner Division’Courtney Humphreys and Martha Jones. BREAD & CEREAL Senior Division’ TK Morris, first; Meagan Schaffner, second. Junior Division’Carter Hum-phreys, first. Beginner Division’Errett Ed-miston. Beef awards for the McCulloch County 4-H Food Show were presented to John David Willmann in the senior division, Jay Behrens in the intermediate division, and Christina DeFiore in the junior division. The first place winners in the senior, intermediate and junior divisions at the County 4-H Food Show advanced to the District 4-H Food Show held Nov. 18 in Abilene. In the Senior Division, Jenna Behrens placed first in fruits and vegetables; and Leslie Ranne placed first in main dish. Erica Paniagua placed fourth in nutritious snacks and desserts, and TK Morris placed seventh in breads and cereals. For the intermediate group, Jay Behrens placed first in main dish, and Katie Kidd placed fourth in nutritious snacks and desserts. Rounding out the competition, Carter Humphreys placed third in breads and cereals for the junior division. In addition to the food competition, Meagan Schaffner placed second in the poster contest with a pork safety exhibit. Other participants at district were Becca Willmann, Josh Behrens and Lacey Sawyer. The two senior level winners, Jenna Behrens and Leslie Ranne, will represent the district at the State Food Show scheduled for June 11-15 during the Texas 4-H Roundup. “I thought the 4-Hers did a wonderful job,” said County Extension Agent Jane Holubec. “They showed great growth of knowledge and skills not only in food pereparation but in nutritional aspects as well.”
