McCulloch, Concho and Menard Counties Extension Services plan to conduct a pesticide license re-certification training next Thursday, Dec. 7 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Menard. The meeting will contain five continuing education units (CEU’s) for re-certificate of pesticide licenses. The CEU’s including one hour in pesticide laws and regulations, one hour in IPM (integrated pest management, and 3 hours in general units. The program is sponsored by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and Ag Committees in the three counties. According to McCulloch County Extension Agent Jerry Kidd, “This is the fourth year for the three counties to host this pesticide re-certification training. The concept of this meeting originated within the three ag committees to assist ag producers and commercial license holders needing extra hours for license renewal at the end of the year. “Participation has grown every year, with standing room only a number of times at this training. This year, the ag committees decided to move from Eden to Menard with plans to rotate the site on an annual basis between the three counties. Next year, McCulloch County will be the host county.” Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with the program concluded by 3 p.m. Cain Cline, TDA Representative from San Angelo, will offer one hour credit in “Laws and Regulation.” Dr. Chris Sansone, Entomologist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, will offer one hour in the “IPM” category. Offering further instruction and 3 hours of credit in the general category are Dr. Billy Warrick, Extension Agronomist, Michael Palmer, Concho County Extension Agent, and Steve Nelle, Wildlife Biologist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Palmer will discuss “Control Methods for Mesquite, Prickly Pear and Cedar” while Nelle will cover “Weed Identification and Control.” Dr. Warrick will talk about “Equipment maintenance and calibration for effective applications.” Registration is $10 per person that included a noon meal.
