Brady JV girls split pair over Thanksgiving

The Brady Bulldog girls’ junior varsity basketball team played two games over the Thanksgiving holiday and split the pair with two separate opponents. In their first game on Tuesday, the girls took on the San Saba Armadillos and defeated them, 36-26. Ashley Salinas led the way with 10 points followed by Erica Hernandez with nine. “We played well enough to win the game,” said coach Chris Wienecke, “but now it is time to start teaching these ladies a killer instinct. We still have a lot of room for improvement.” Others who scored were Talley Wright 4, Krystal Borchert 3, Kelsey Bailey 4, Meagan Schaffner 2 and Stacy Lohn 4. Score by quarters: Brady 8 11 9 8’36 San Saba 2 9 4 11’26 In their Wednesday game, despite a 16-point effort by Borchert, the girls fell to the Sonora Broncos, 47-40. “We played like it was a holiday,” said Wienecke. “We only hit 8 of 25 from the free throw line. If we would shoot 50 percent, we would win the ball game. We have to keep working hard.” Other scorers: Hernandez 1, Wright 7, Stephanie Solis 1, Bailey 6, Schaffner 4, Salinas 3, Stacy Lohn 2.
