El Flamingo’s dinner benefits ‘Toys for Tots’

If you are in the mood to relax this Thanksgiving and enjoy an authentic home-cooked turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings but without all the hassle and cleanup, head to El Flamingo restaurant. The Gloria family is once again hosting a traditional Thanksgiving dinner that is open to all members of the community. Served Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., this marks the fourth year the Glorias have hosted this meal. “We do this as a family to help give a little something back to our community,” said Kathy Gloria. “I couldn’t do this without them, and we all really enjoy pitching in and helping out.” The meal is free to everyone, but donations are accepted. All proceeds will be donated to the McCulloch County Helping Hands Toys for Tots program. Last year, the Glorias raised nearly $1,900 for the program and helped purchase Christmas toys for over 300 McCulloch County children. “We served somewhere between 150-170 homebound persons last year and had over 200 people come in to the restaurant,” said Mrs. Gloria. “We have had many volunteers help with everything from providing pies and cornbread to delivering meals. “We serve until 2 p.m. and then our family sits down and has our own family dinner. We welcome anyone who wants to come and enjoy a good home-cooked meal. You don’t have to donate, but they are always welcome. If you are homebound, call Helping Hands up until next Wednesday or call the restaurant on Thursday.”
