Carter honored with invite to United Kingdom, Ireland

Alyssa Carter, granddaughter of Allie Rickman of Brady and Richard Rickman of Memphis, has been invited to become a member of the People to People Texas and Oklahoma delegation representing the United States in the United Kingdom and Ireland in the summer of 2001. As one of the students recommended by People to People Delegation Leaders, Student Ambassador alumni, or national educational listing organizations, Allysa was selected to join other outstanding high school students in the Denton County area delegation. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded People to People in 1956, and the Eisenhower family continues to be directly involved today. President Eisenhower launched his vision to create a global community based on trust, respect and an understanding of other cultures, economies and political systems. One of the critical components of his vision was based upon the direct interaction between students of different nations, which would connect the peoples of the world in a network of friendship. Selected Student Ambassadors will represent America overseas, experience new cultures and make lifelong friends in family homestays and school visits. Each delegation of approximately 30 students and three selected teacher-leaders will visit London and Worcester, England; Bangor and Cardiff, Wales; Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland; and Cork and Dublin, Ireland. Due to a conflicting schedule, Alyssa will be unable to attend.
