Brady 8th splits pair with Llano

The eighth grade boys teams split their season openers Monday night as the Gold team won, 38-20 over Llano while the Black team fell to the Jackets, 25-14. In the Gold game, the Brady boys overcame a one point deficit at the half to finish with a strong 27-8 run in the second half. “A big reason for the turnaround was pressure defense which led to fast break points,” said coach Mike Nu’ez. Paden Behrens was the high point man for the Doggies with 17 points including eight field goals and 1 of 3 from the free throw line. Adam Jacoby added seven to the scoreboard and Nathan Price tallied six. Score by quarters: Brady 4 7 15 12’38 Llano 8 4 4 4’20 H In the Black game, the Brady offense was stifled in the last two quarters of play as Llano held them to a mere two buckets in the second half. Tied at six after the first period, a 10-4 run by Llano in the second gave them a lead they never relinquished. “After a deadlocked first quarter score, we were unable to put the ball in the hole,” said coach Nu’ez. Ismael Carrasco led the scoring for the Dogs with four and Justin Pollok, Luke Conrad, Reed Williams, Shaw Wagner and Cody Daniel each had two points. Score by quarters: Brady 6 4 2 2’14 Llano 6 10 4 5’25
