Miss Jessie Laurie Barfoot, 94, of Stephenville and formerly of Brady, died Wednesday, Oct. 11 in Community Nursing Home in Stephenville. A longtime Brady High School senior English teacher, Miss Barfoot ran a stern ship over her students for more than 40 years. She began her teaching career in 1926, coming to Brady in 1937 and serving until 1961. Although most strict, she was loved and admired by all her pupils. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13 in West End Cemetery in Stephenville, the Rev. Fred Winslow, officiating. Services are under the direction of Lacy Funeral Home of Stephenville. Born March 29, 1906 in Montgomery, Ala., she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Other than Brady, Miss Barfoot also taught in Rochelle and New Braunfels among others. She was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she also received her master’s degree. Survivors include a brother, L. Hale Barfoot of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and several nieces and nephews.
