Flag football action trudges through cold, wet weekend

Teams from the Brady Youth Sports Foundation flag football league matched up for the fifth round of regular season action this past weekend. Cold temperatures hovering near 50 kept the teams struggling to stay warm. The 13 teams that play each week are sponsored by local businesses in the Brady and surrounding area. The following is a list of game results from both divisions as well as highlights from each team’s performance. 3rd/4th Grade Division Leatherwood Funeral Home 19, Subway 6. Josh Behrens led the pack with three touchdowns, one interception, one caught pass, one completed pass and two flags. Gregory Torres accounted for four flags while Colen Hanna got two. The Subway touchdown came from Jeremy Allgood who also pulled one flag. Laret Lawrence copped five flags and completed for two passes. Justin Richardson also earned his keep with three flags and one caught pass. H Donald Barley CPA 24, Mason team 0. Robert Bara ran in two TD followed by one from both Jake Long and Cody McAda. Bara also pulled four flags and caught two passes. Dalton Thurman copped three flags in the game as well. For Mason’s team, Vance Lndkurg pulled down an interception and also pulled one flag. Rodrigo Castillo led the way with four flags followed by Mason Matlock who had two. H CNB 18, Heart of Texas Lube & Laser Wash 7. Reuben Resendez ran in the three TDs for CNB and also accounted for four flags. Lonnie Williams led the pack with five flags followed by three form Chris Nandin and two from Alex Moreno and David Vietch. HOT Lube & Laser Wash’s Billy Rainwater brought in the only touchdown scored in the game. Eli Conrad pulled three flags, caught one pass and brought down one interception. H 5th/6th Grade Division Countywide Insurance 14, McCulloch County Veterinary Hospital 6. Brian Harris and John Broz ran in the two TDs scored in the game. Harris also accounted for six flags and four completed passes. Others who had an outstanding effort in the game were Blayne Black who got two flags and two caught passes and Aaron Harris who caught two passes and brought down one interception. Nick Kwast of McCulloch County Vet brought in the TD and pulled two flags in the game. Tommy Huerta swiped five flags and completed one pass and Jack Fincher got two flags and completed one pass. H Rick Melcer 32, McDonald’s 18. Cody Melcer was on top of the action with three touchdowns, one safety, and three pulled flags. Dustin Talley also got in the endzone with two TDs and two flags. chase Remini pulled five flags followed by four from Nolan Landes. Three TDs were scored for McDonalds and came from Tyler Campbell, Brantley King and Chase Epley. Bobby Byers pulled two flags and intercepted one ball. H Oglebay Norton 20, BNB 9. Dustin Beard scored one TD followed by one from Will Schumann and one from Patrick Friar. Robert Smith scored two points through a safety. Beard also pulled five flags and brought down two interceptions. Dustin McFarland scored the only points earned in the game. Jonathan Jordan pulled three flags, threw for one pass and caught one. H Jacoby Feed & Seed 24, Mason team 6. Jacob Hogan ran in two TDs while T.J. Blair and Trevor McBee each brought in one TD. McBee also pulled four flags, caught three passes and brought down one interception. Blair accounted for one interception as well. Holden Jacoby completed seven passes in the game. Dustin Lagua caught one pass for a TD in the match against Jacoby Feed & Seed. Francisco Torres and Patrick Sammons pulled two flags.
